Our premium cattle are produced with knowledge passed down through generations, good genetics, sustainable farming, traceability, embracing technology and the highest quality of cattle husbandry.

We use state of the art technology for processing our cattle but you will still find us mustering on horseback with dogs. This is an old tried and true practice which keeps the cattle quiet in turn contributing to the success of our cattle.

Genetics

The Donohoe family understand that good genetics is crucial for breeding premium cattle. Optimising a blood line via genetics allows us to control our cow survival rate, weight, calving ease, fat depth and marbling score. We buy only the best bulls on the market which whom are also genetically superior and then bred with our already select herd.

Sustainability

Our land has been stick racked and is blade ploughed every 10 years. We blade plough the raw soil on our properties, removing all the impurities allowing optimal moisture to accumulate and stay in the ground. When blade ploughed new pastures and grasses are planted. The Donohoe’s have perfected a special grass mix containing Katambora Rhodes, Usa Buffel, Gayndah Buffle, Bisset Creeping Bluegrass, Barrel Medic, Burgandy Bean and Sirato.

Traceability

Electronic Identification Tags (EID) are placed on all our calves at 3 months of age. The EID’s will remain on the cattle over their lifetime enabling us to collect data such as age and weight. EID technology gives us the data to track our cattle’s location history and therefore determine paddock feed fertility, resulting in optimal fattening.

Technology

We are forward thinking and see the value in investing in technology.  We recently invested in a new state of the art, custom built and designed cattle yards which are used for branding, weaning, drafting, weighing and treating cattle. Our top priority when processing cattle is to keep the cattle calm.  Calm cattle yield better meat.  We use many hydraulic devices such as our calf cradle, crush and gates.  The hydraulic component of these devices keeps noise to a minimum keeping cattle quiet and less stressed.  Investing in this technology allows quick and easy processing and movement of the cattle through the yards, provides a safe work environment and is cost effective as less labour is required.
