Our History
Thomas Donohoe Senior came to Australia in 1851. He purchased property at The Oaks in NSW where he began farming and dairying. This area was newly established having only been first settled 23 years earlier, thus making the Donohoe’s one of the oldest pioneering families of this district.
Thomas’ son, William continued in his father’s footsteps and was dairying and farming at The Oaks before seeking to expand his business and land holding. He purchased a farm at Mt Darry north of Toowoomba in 1906 where he continued his love of dairying and farming. Along with his business partner E. P. Moore, he won many awards for his cattle at the Goombungee shows.
William’s son, Kenneth was dairying and farming at Mt Darry before purchasing a grazing block at Wandoan in 1949 where he commenced his successful Hereford cattle breeding enterprise. He bought the neighbouring properties in 1963 and 1967.
Since Kenneth’s death in 1991, his son Tom continued to operate the cattle breeding enterprise across the three properties running mainly Angus and Droughtmaster cattle. He expanded the business in 1996 by establishing a registered 800 SCU feedlot. Tom successfully entered feedlot cattle at Beef shows across the region and won awards at the Wandoan Beef Bonanza and Murgon Beef Show.
In further plans to expand the farm in 2016, Tom and his son Kenneth purchased additional adjoining land now making 18,000 acres to graze their cattle. Now Tom (mostly retired) and Kenneth continue the long proud Donohoe history on the land and in the cattle industry.
